Workshops

a passion for

plaster

and porcelain

The 2023 workshop details are available below…

Pom-me-granite workshops are held in a working ceramics studio in an inspiring rural setting.

You’ll meet like minded souls and gain confidence through gentle guidance and experimentation.

Classes cater for absolute beginners through to professional potters seeking to incorporate plaster moulds into their ceramic practice.

Beautiful handmade ceramics are not something to be stored in the cupboard for special occasions - they can be used every day to bring pleasure and remind us of our connection to the earth.

The studio in winter

The studio in winter

Thank you for giving us an interesting and enjoyable introduction to working with clay. I can see how it might capture the imagination and many hours could be spent creating and designing so many items.
Thank you also for being a kind host and letting us enjoy the peaceful surrounds of your studio and garden. You live in a very beautiful part of Victoria.

press moulds

A slab of clay is either draped over (hump) or into (slump) the plaster mould, shaped by hand and left to firm up. Once removed, the process can be repeated.

Test tiles using variations to gain an understanding of the fundamentals of glazing.

Introduction to ceramic glazes

With Kevin Boyd! An amazing opportunity to learn the basic chemistry of ceramic oxides and their function in glazes, their relationship to one another, how to read a recipe, and how to manipulate glazes to develop a personal expression.

mould making and slip casting

A model in clay is used to make a plaster mould that gets completely filled with slip (liquid clay) and left for a set time. The plaster absorbs water from the slip and a film of clay builds up at all points of contact. Once emptied the mould is left to drain and the clay to firm up. When removed, the process can be repeated.
